When Flower Siblings Meet

This Earth, where all sorts of flowers bloom in all sorts of environments. If there were no flowers in this world, how lonely a place it would surely be. When I arrange flowers, I often think about the kind of environment in which these flowers bloom in the natural world.

Of course, the flowers that circulate at market are not wild species but cultivated ones, so it is hard to judge; but whether they favor cold or heat, dryness or humidity—if you observe nature, you can roughly guess that much.

And then, if, for instance, I am to arrange a flower that loves the north together with one that loves the south, I sometimes proceed with the design holding the wish to bring together flowers that, in the natural world, would surely never have bloomed side by side.

I cannot know a flower’s feelings—but when I sense the joy of flowers that could meet for the first time only through that flower design, my heart is filled with a sense of mission and with the joy of having carried through a responsible flower culture.
