A Fortune Told by the Stars, Alone
Tonight the stars are exceedingly beautiful in a crystal-clear sky. Gazing at a sky full of stars, I thought about constellations, of which I have no knowledge at all. Just who, for what purpose, and around when, thought them up? Well, I’ll look it up later…
The one thing I vaguely remember about constellations is that they’re a hard-to-grasp business: you pick several stars, draw lines between them, and, by a bit of a stretch, sketch out the motif of a constellation.
Ignorance is bliss—I connected several stars that looked big with lines and sketched in my head a constellation only I could understand.
Done! I named it “My Own Constellation” (Waga-za)—and I felt oddly happy.
Ever since, on nights when “My Own Constellation” is clearly visible, I believe something good will happen tomorrow, and it has become a treasure for me alone.
