365 Days
It feels like only the other day that we finished celebrating the New Year, yet the year’s end is already right before us. Is it my age that makes each year feel faster than the last?
Still, 365 days to a year is really quite well made. It seems just the right length both for looking back on the year now ending and for lining up one’s hopes that next year, surely, will be the one. If it weren’t for this dividing line, someone like me would no doubt be worn utterly ragged. As for this past year of mine, it was busy to a fault and full, yet I feel I never quite had the room in my heart to feel a joy that warms the chest, or the happiness of being alive right now.
This won’t do. Next year for sure, I tell myself once again—etching the very same resolve into my heart.
And so another new 365 days arrives.
