The Future Lies Within the Present

Twenty-four hours to a day, seven days to a week, about thirty days to a month, 365 days to a year, spring, summer, autumn, winter—the calendar advances in good balance. It may be precisely because there are these milestones in the passage of time that we can refresh ourselves just enough and pass our days without growing weary. And it goes without saying that only by living each single day with care does a year become a fulfilling one.

When we drag along the things of the past, or fret only over the future, our very existence today tends to grow indistinct.

Living in the world of flowers, one must hold the calendar especially dear, yet much of my work is preparation done out of season. Perhaps that is why, more than most, I cherish the bodily feel of this day called today, and its season. I must make use of past experience, hold dreams and hopes for the future, and live the now—thinking such things, today again I am at work creating pieces for a 2010 calendar.
