Itchiku Kubota, who overcame countless hardships and made the beautiful flower called “Tsujigahana” bloom. This work takes his life and his spirit as its theme. That single-minded, unsullied soul, which never gave in to hardship and held an aspiration higher than anyone else’s, I have laid over the supple, powerful form of the weeping willow. What blooms in glory on the willow is the radiant “flower of the heart” that only those who have come through adversity can bring into bloom.
