At the KEITA KAWASAKI Kyoto solo exhibition to be held in October 2026, we will unveil a number of new works.
Among them, one collaboration we would especially like you to see is between HANA GRAPHIC ART and Kyo-Yuzen dyeing. Flower artist KEITA KAWASAKI’s “HANA GRAPHIC ART” elevates each individual bloom into a graphical world of its own.

This time, that work takes on a new challenge in the form of hand-painted Kyo-Yuzen, a traditional craft handed down in Kyoto.
Creating this piece together with us is “Senshо̄ Ichikawa” (Senshо̄ Ichikawa Co., Ltd.), a Kyo-Yuzen atelier in Kyoto that has, over many years, inherited both sure technique and a refined aesthetic sense to continue producing delicate hand-painted Yuzen.

Where the handwork of skilled artisans, pouring their feelings into every single stroke, fuses with the vitality of the flowers KEITA KAWASAKI paints, a work unlike any before is about to be born.

On the furisode (long-sleeved kimono) currently in production, we plan to boldly render onto a single garment the worlds of the gold-screen work “KANKI / 歓喜” and the silver-screen work “HARURANMAN / 春爛漫,” both unveiled at last year’s solo exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan.

From the spatial art of folding screens to art worn on the body.
Two of Japan’s proudest forms of expression meet, and the work into which new life has been breathed becomes, quite fittingly, one of the defining challenges of this Kyoto solo exhibition.

At the exhibition venue, alongside the furisode work, the original gold screen “KANKI / 歓喜” and silver screen “HARURANMAN / 春爛漫” will also be on display.
How does the same work change its expression when rendered through different materials and techniques?
This will be a rare opportunity to view them side by side and compare those differences.
A new challenge in which tradition and contemporary art resonate together — made possible precisely because it is Kyoto.
